Major Meltdown

No, I'm not talking about the first heat wave of 2011 here in the ATL.

I'm talking about the huge screaming fit Big E threw at the mall today.  Big E was running around and playing with his girlfriend, Lady P.  They were pretty wound up and working off some toddler steam.

I decided to pull out the crayons and coloring books to calm them down a bit.  The kids were coloring but then they started to hoard crayons.  I gave the standard Mrs. Yoy sharing warning.

If you can't share the {insert item here}, Mommy is going to take it away and no one can have it.

Big E chose not to listen, so I informed him that the crayons were out of here.  I scooped them up and put them in the box.  Big E immediately started screaming and crying.  He was hysterical.  Lady P started crying because Big E was crying.  Everyone in the mall was staring at us.  The acoustics were perfect for screams.  I'm sure the shoppers at the other end of the mall could hear Big E's cries for his crayons.

I called it.  We were out.  I tried to put Big E in the double stroller.  He arched his back.  He wet-noodled his way out of the seat.  I was sweating.  Little E quietly stared at me in amazement.  Tears were running down Big E's cheeks.  Snot was running out of his nose.  There was no turning back.  He had officially melted down.  This was the first time Big E had done this in public.

I did what any panicky mom would do.  I grabbed Big E and swung him under my left arm while I pushed the double stroller with my right arm.  Big E screamed and fought me all the way out to the car.

I must have had a flustered look on my face, because the valet guy came out and helped me put the stroller in the back of the car.  Many thanks to him, by the way.

We drove home with Big E screaming for water.  He finally calmed down about five minutes from home.  Then, it was like none of that ever happened.  He read books in his playroom until his nap.

I, on the other hand, am still recovering.
